Yoga Nidra; What is it?
Celia Crellin
Yoga Nidra is lying down meditation. It is a healing relaxation practice which encourages homeostasis in body and equanimity in mind.
But it feels like sleeping.
If you are exhausted or sick or overworked or sad or broken, or compulsively eating or your body is sore after a workout, it will help.
Like all things yogic, Yoga Nidra is the whole thing and delivers at every level - physical, mental, spiritual and social. You flourish. The seed the shoot the roots the bud the blossom the fruit and back to the seed and of course the water and the sun. Yoga Nidra is nourishment.
Nidra translated from the Sansrit is sleep; sleep and rest are precious. We give them up too easily, to our peril.
Yoga Nidra transforms you. Not once but forever. Over and over again.
Like a baby waking from its sleep is rosy cheeked, bright eyed, full of smiles and willingness and sweet natured. In fact, you could say it’s in a state of extroverted love. That’s what Yoga Nidra does. We turn away from the world, the senses curl up quiet now and the inner life, our source blasts us with light. Then we return to the world, out turned to help. This is our purpose. To love.
Spirituality, harmony, concord must arise from within to bring health and contentment. – Joy comes not from not rearranging material landscapes and personal narratives, but from deep transformation.
Hypervigilance anger anxiety damage and bad habits – holding tight to events and a flawed worldview robs us of our naturalness. We can no longer trust, allow or be vulnerable. We put on masks.
Yoga Nidra is super effective rest. Twenty minutes of Yoga Nidra gives you 4 hours of wellbeing and producitveness.
It rehabilitates your nightime sleep. It matures your psychology. It reinstates your goodness.
Over time it will revive you, resuscitate you to who you really are and prepare you for your real life.
If you want to keep going for a really long time in good shape, you need effective rest. Whether you are a parent, or a sportsperson or a CEO or someone who is chronically ill. All high achievers are after this optimum functioning, this best self. This high level functioning is provided in form as continuous constant unbroken awareness, undisturbed by misgivings. This is meditation.
Yoga Nidra is lying down meditation.
